I wanted to share my experience with cold caps. Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis means facing difficult challenges that shake both self-esteem and femininity. That’s what led me to consider using the caps, despite my financial concerns. The Garde tes cheveux Foundation was a true ally for me: both a community of women going through the same reality and a wealth of valuable resources. Thanks to this support, both for me and the person who accompanied me on this journey, we felt confident, well-prepared, and supported to fully commit. Of course, it’s not easy — it requires commitment and the support of loved ones. But during a time when I was losing my bearings and control over my body, being able to keep part of my hair, to avoid the well-known “chemo head,” had a real impact on the way I went through this challenge. I rented the cold caps independently, as the ones offered at my hospital did not follow the optimal protocol to maximize the chances of success with my chemotherapy. Most of the nurses were very attentive and supportive. Even my oncologist was encouraging and pleasantly surprised by the excellent results! If sharing my experience can help other women reflect and make their choice consciously — whether they decide to try the caps or not — then I’ll be happy to have contributed, in my own way, to helping them face this step by reclaiming a sense of power. — Marie-Michèle Côté
