My deepest wish was to go unnoticed. Not looking sick was my way of not feeling sick. Being able to go grocery shopping without the weight of people’s stares. Keeping my hair allowed me to preserve my dignity, my normalcy, and my energy.

One year ago, I began my chemotherapy treatment plan: 4 AC and 12 Taxols, with one very specific goal in mind — keeping my hair despite the chemo. When I was told about this treatment plan, the medical team also told me, with certainty, that I would lose my hair. But for me, that was unthinkable. My deepest wish was to go unnoticed. Not looking sick was my way of not feeling sick. Being able to go grocery shopping without the weight of people’s stares. Keeping my hair allowed me to preserve my dignity, my normalcy, and my energy. It wasn’t easy. There were moments when I wanted to give up — but I held on. And today, I’m so glad I did. It’s thanks to the cold caps, the support of my “capper” (my mom), my loved ones, and the kind-hearted community at Garde tes cheveux Foundation that I was able to make this goal a reality. 💙 I kept my hair. 💪 It helped me get through this difficult time — during and after — with strength. 🙏 Thank you, Garde tes cheveux, for your support, your guidance, and your essential mission. I hope everyone learns that it’s possible. It can change everything. - Andréanne Cormier
