Even today, I realize just how much this tool gave me a sense of continuity during a time when everything felt uncertain. That’s why I’m sharing my story: for those considering scalp cooling, for employers who want to support a colleague undergoing treatment, and for patients looking to stay connected to their everyday life.

🎗️ My story: cancer, work, and self-confidence 🎗️ When I received my diagnosis, I knew I wanted to keep working. Not to pretend everything was fine, but to hold on to some sense of balance — a sliver of normalcy during a time when everything was being upended. Work, for me, was a way to stay grounded and give meaning to my days. I was lucky to be surrounded by a compassionate, understanding workplace that allowed me to adjust my schedule, my tasks, and occasionally work remotely. But another factor — one we might not always think of — played a key role in helping me stay present and engaged: scalp cooling. Thanks to scalp cooling, I was able to preserve my hair during chemotherapy. And while that may seem secondary, the impact was tremendous. Seeing myself in the mirror — or on a video call — looking like I usually do helped me recognize myself. It helped me feel like me. It allowed me to hold on to my dignity, my self-esteem, my confidence — all the things you need to keep moving forward, both professionally and personally. Even now, I realize how much this tool provided a sense of continuity at a time when nothing felt stable. That’s why I’m telling my story: for those who are considering using scalp cooling, for employers who want to support a colleague through treatment, and for patients who are trying to stay connected to their day-to-day life. Cancer changes a lot. But it shouldn’t take everything from us. If we want to, and if we’re able, continuing to work, keeping our routines, preserving our image and our self-confidence — that too is a form of resilience. I hope more and more people will have access to this kind of support, because it can truly make all the difference. 💛
