DECLARATION OF BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS
With the objective of facilitating rapid and reliable access to quality French-language services in Québec, two of the six members of the Board of Directors of the Fondation Garde tes cheveux (“GTC”) have agreed to provide customer service for Penguin Cold Caps Canada in exchange for remuneration. Since GTC’s mission is to provide objective, neutral, complete, and up-to-date information on the use of scalp cooling, it is important for us to disclose these business relationships so that we may fulfill our mission with full neutrality. Accordingly, you may obtain further details on each element of this declaration by clicking on the hyperlinks associated with the bolded excerpts. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any additional questions; our objective is to facilitate access to the use of this method with complete neutrality and transparency.
Objective
Our mission includes providing complete, neutral, objective, and up-to-date information about the scalp cooling cap technique, which allows individuals to preserve their hair during chemotherapy treatments, so that patients can make a fully informed personal decision on the matter. Our objective is also to facilitate access to and use of this method for those who wish to do so. We do not manufacture, own, or supply cooling caps.
There are two types of scalp cooling caps: fixed systems and manual caps. Fixed systems may only be purchased and operated by clinics (B2B) and are very rare in Québec. Only manual caps may be used independently by patients, who must obtain them on their own and at their own expense. At present, the only supplier of manual caps (B2C) holding a Level 1 certification from Health Canada as a recognized medical device is Penguin Cold Caps. Its Canadian division is based in Ontario and operated by unilingual English-speaking staff.
In order to facilitate access to these manual caps for French-speaking Quebecers and given that very few people in Québec outside the Fondation Garde tes cheveux possess expertise in this area, it appeared more practical and efficient to allow two of our board members to provide French-language customer service for Penguin Cold Caps Canada in exchange for remuneration. This situation is governed in accordance with recognized principles of good governance, with a steadfast commitment to providing neutral and objective information.
