On August 12, 2022, at the age of 46, I received a diagnosis of breast cancer after the accidental discovery of a lump while in the shower. This initiated a series of medical interventions, including chemotherapy, with Taxotere (docetaxel) as the chosen treatment. It's worth noting that Taxotere is a chemotherapeutic agent known to, in rare cases, cause permanent hair loss, with ongoing class-action lawsuits in the United States attesting to this consequence (in addition to numerous studies). I had the instinct to regain control and educate myself. Fortunately, I learned about the existence of scalp cooling systems. Similar to many other women in Quebec who, independently, used scalp cooling systems and continued the treatment at home for 4 to 6 hours after the infusion, I managed to preserve my hair despite undergoing chemotherapy. *Garde tes cheveux* is a non-profit organization with a mission to inform and educate clinicians throughout Quebec so that no woman has to hear from her medical team that there are no solutions for hair loss.
